Hi, my names is Volodymyr Maksymchuk and I am a photographer currently based in Vienna. For over seven years, I’ve been working with photography in all its diversity — from events and documentary stories to intimate family portraits, editorial work, and commercial projects.

From 2018 to early 2025, I worked as the official photographer for the Lutsk City Council in Ukraine. I documented everything from city-wide events and official meetings to the daily work of the mayor and local government. That job taught me how to work under pressure, adapt quickly, and capture meaningful moments — even in the most unpredictable settings.

In 2024, I also had the chance to teach photography at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, where I shared my knowledge with third-year journalism students. We explored everything from color theory and composition to shooting with natural light and working with live models. Teaching made me fall in love with photography all over again — through their eyes.

One of the most important projects in my life so far is Panakhyda — a visual requiem for the fallen Heroes of Ukraine. Between 2022 and 2023, I photographed public memorials and funerals in western Ukraine. Most of these took place at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Lutsk and in nearby villages. Through these images, I tried to speak not only about war and grief, but about eternity, the soul, and what remains after we’re gone. Selected photographs from Panakhyda were shown in the Safe Place exhibition at Galerie der HBKsaar and published in a photobook of the same name alongside the works of 15 other photographers.

For me, photography isn’t just a profession — it’s a way of thinking. A way of feeling. A way to make sense of the world. I’m endlessly inspired by classical art, the golden age of 20th-century photography, religion and mythology, philosophy, and psychology. I love spontaneous moments, natural light, and images that carry emotional depth and thoughtfulness.

I’m always open to collaboration, creative dialogue, and new challenges. Feel free to reach out through any of my social channels — I’d love to hear from you. You can use contact form below, or just DM me in any of the social networks featured at the top right corner of this page. See ya!
